A view is all in how you see it

19

This was my view today, pretty much all day.  From the ferry line, to the back roads,
to the main line - Interstate 5 - WET.  While the east coast deals with
white and snow, out here in the northwest we deal with grey and rain.  Endless amounts of it.
Day after day 'till at times I think I may lose my friggin' marbles.

Per usual for these late winter blues, I put extra effort into "seeing the light" so to speak
through other means.  I scream for favors from friends afar .... oh, let me live vicariously!
Tell me about laughing, about dancing, about how you spent time with your loved one.
Show me all your pretty pictures - I need color ... show me the whole world has not gone dormant!
I listen to energizing music [very loud] and make a special point of smiling at every person
I meet who looks like I feel.  I eat more food that nourishes and I stick to uplifting books
and leave the heavies for later.

Most of all, I try to stay grateful because it's hard to be down when you're thankful.

Isla dawg happens to be one of the great lights of my life
so during the outward bound downpour, I pulled this image from my iphone archives
and played with the sun flare around her fluffy self.
With me today, like usual, she rode in the back of the jeep & didn't fail to beg a cookie
from the ferry man.  She rides for hours without complaint only popping her head up front
for a cuddle every now & then.
Hard to believe she's almost 10 ... she still shines so bright, does she.
I know we are counting days together now
but I dearly try to not take a single moment with her for granted.

Her reticence around cameras is a bit legendary at this point
[just how does she know that thing I talk into is also trying to take her picture?]
I've used many a trick over the years to capture her portrait ...
sometimes I've been lucky enough to bypass her wily ways.

That's my girlie.
Best pal ever, rain or shine.

  1. THANK you for the reminder. I am especially down right now due to this weather. EVERY day I wake up to the forecast of 1-2 more inches of snow. My pup is 4-1/2 months old and I long to teach him how to walk nicely on a leash. He and the boxer tear through the house then in the back yard. I used to do that with the boxer before the badger/boxer came to live with us. Then they come back in to sit in front of the patio door watching the birds and squirrels at the feeder. Watching them brings warm and thankful thoughts. It's just hard to be thankful in the AM. Perhaps I should be thankful at 4 AM that another day has dawned ~lol~ (before I hear the forecast!)
    xx, Carol

    1. ahhh Carol, hope you're keeping your head above it as well ... we need to be strong at balancing right now, I think. I always seem to get off-center at this time of year. Never happened when I lived in CA so am fairly certain it's this northern grey that starts to prey on me. You made me chuckle with the "thankful at 4 AM" bit - another day dawning + gratitude INDEED! pleased you left a note, hope you're doing ok.

  2. Last year you and I were on the same page this time of year…..and I LOVED your company (and was comforted by your empathy). But this year is different, so I'd like to share the New Mexico sunshine with you. Pics to follow as I learn how to unload them from my computer to make room for more. Big warm dry hugs to you…….remember NEVER GIVE UP! ox

    1. Rainbow, I have no memory of what I might have said last year, but I appreciate you saying so. Sun in NM is sublime. Have been thru that part of the country a couple of times, best being a photo workshop in Santa Fe about 10 years back where we tramped all over heck & back and ate the most glorious food. A world of COLOR you have, at your fingertips! Thanks for the message :>]

considering you folks are completely smothered in the white stuff back there.
Will stop over & read about your time Down Under ... must have been a treat of a time!

  5. I forget that in between photographs of daffodils and tulips there is rain and gray.
The upside of all this snow and cold is the intense blue and heat of the sun seen melting in corners where the wind can't swirl.

    (good good girl isla!)

  7. "dormant" what an absolutely perfect word for this year's winter. Everyone I know is 'dormant'. I move, I even work in my studio but it like moving through chocolate pudding only not as delicious! Each day I wait for the sun to shine, sometimes here in the southern climes it does other days it doesn't. But it will come, it always does and we'll all come blinking out into the light where we'll frolic and dance and sing for joy.

  8. If it's any comfort I met a nineteen year old border collie the other day - still sprightly - they last longest when not regularly bowled over by sheep!

    1. Bless 'em, Indi, nineteen?! oh what a sweetsweet thought that I may have my darling friend years more ...
Wonder if being bowled over by wild rabbits counts? may cut back the time frame a bit if so.
