Navigation: bundle #4

18

Looks like a dirty old rag.
If you walked by it on the street, you wouldn't stop to pick it up...

if you saw it laying on a park bench,
you probably wouldn't want to sit next to it....
even if you knew there were red rose petals stuffed inside
or that it was a delicately edged vintage napkin hiding under all that *grime*.

Strange things can happen during a two-day eucalyptus and iron soak...

Heavy linen seems to love being pre-mordanted with ash water.
Oh, what a learning curve all this trial & error has been....is....
every cloth becomes another building block towards understanding.  There are moments
when it all feels uphill and quite arduous,
and
very labor intensive.

Thank goodness for important reminders.

Just

keep

going.

  3. very neat results! i'm drawn to the contrast between the hard lines around the center and the cloudiness around the edges.

    1. oh Lisa, I hadn't looked at it quite like that, but yes, I see what you mean ~ agreed! You've just given me an idea for a repeat (and it's not often I think I can replicate one of these effects!) Thanks so much.

  5. Yes yes YES!! You have such a beautiful way of seeing. The pic of the cathedral and your "rag" -- perfect!!! Thank you for the tip about heavy linen and soda ash...Frankly, all these cloths you are unearthing are stirring the creative juices. SOOO much depth and interest to work with. Can't wait to see what you do with them. They each have their very own distinct personality...

    1. Susan, all this dyeing is leaving me with thrumming fingers anxious to get back to beading. Seems to be a pattern for me, taking breaks from beading. Helps me to *see* where I'm going a bit better. As usual, huge gracias for all your kind words. If we lived closer, wouldn't it be fun to dye together?????

    1. Thank for visiting, Ayn. I was taken with the limited palette of this one, too. Leaves so much room for surface embellishment possibilities :>]]

    1. The anticipation that comes from waiting is quite extraordinary, like waiting for someone to dole out your favorite dessert.
      Thanks for visiting, Susan.
